Things To Do in Jinja City – Jinja is a city in the Eastern region of Uganda, along the northern coasts of Lake Victoria. Jinja is located 80 kilometers away from Kampala which is the capital city of Uganda. Jinja is well-known internationally largely because it is the source of the River Nile. It is in Jinja that the river Nile escapes Lake Victoria and begins a 6,650km journey to Egypt.
Jinja got its name from the big rocks that were located in the area along the River Nile. Most of the rocks were hidden in water after the building of the Owen Falls dam in 1956. The dominant tribal group in Jinja is the Bantu-speaking Basoga. Jinja has been a place of extraordinary significance to Uganda even before its liberation from the British. It was one of the first places to be recognized for urban growth by a planner from the colonial regime understood as Ernst May in 1948. The plan of the town was fantastic and using it, the colonial government built satisfactory roads and organized estates.
