On the 1st of April 2022, Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) reported the birth of a new baby gorilla by an adult female understood as Nyabukye. The birth of the newborn is to the Rushegura mountain gorilla family in the Buhoma sector and this increases the number of gorillas in the group to 13. This newest family member is alleged to be the second gorilla birth in the year 2022.

The Buhoma sector is found in the northern part of Bwindi Forest Impenetrable National Park and is one of the closest to get when travelling from Kampala City and different national parks in Uganda. The sector is home to 5 habituated gorilla families including Rushegura. Those who have been in the Buhoma sector for gorilla trekking testify that the region is calm, quiet and adventurous. Trekking Mountain Gorillas in the Buhoma sector and the rest of Bwindi Forest national park provide an option to see much other wildlife including baboons, monkeys, forest pigs, bush duikers and different bird species.
This is truly good news for Gorilla conservation and tourism in Uganda as the Gorilla is one of the leading endangered species thus an addition is ever a gift from God. On your Bwindi safari experience, you can connect your Gorilla tracking trip with other activities like nature walks, cultural encounters with the Batwa, and a canoe boat ride at Lake Bunyonyi.
