Can You Drive Your Own Car In Masai Mara?
Yes, you surely can. The Maasai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania are indeed the most productive national game parks in the world. However, some of the roads heading to these tourism sites are the poorest roads you will encounter while driving in Kenya. Again, for a first-timer, it can be completely tough to understand where to go and where to stay in the Maasai Mara National Park as the trails are not marked, so you easily get lost
So, while we permit self-drive game drives to Masai Mara, we advise discovering the Mara with a driver-guide. Most Safari lodges even offer game viewing packages, and some safari lodges have these game drives included in their room costs. Alternatively, you can pick up a game ranger from one of the game park gates to assist you in discovering the park nicely.
Note;- If you take a local tour guide/driver or a game ranger and not a driver from FK Car Rental Uganda, you are the only person permitted to drive our car.

Driving Periods And Road States To The Masai Mara Reserve And Mara Triangle Are As Follows:–
- Nairobi – Narok (gateway town to the Mara Reserve) is about 4 hours. It’s a smooth paved road.
- Narok to Sekenani gate (main gate to Mara Reserve) is approximately 2 hours. This C12 is the advised way to take and is completely paved. If you want to drive to Maji Moto, then Google Maps takes you to the C11. Don’t take that road. It’s a very bad road, rough for the car, and it is much longer. Use the C12 to Sekenani gate, and turn left where you see the signpost to Maji Moto Eco Camp. Then it’s a fast drive on a rough road.
- The C13 takes you to both the Oloololo Gate of the Mara Triangle and the Musiara and Talek Gates of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The drive takes almost 7 hours, and the road is in bad condition and you shouldn’t use it {should be avoided}.
If you are preparing to visit the Mara Triangle or the Mara North Conservancy on a self-drive road trip. At car handover, Our reservations manager can offer you tips about how to get to your safari lodge or campsite nicely, and notify you about the everyday state of the park roads.
